Editor’s Note: The “Why we give” series features businesses who are actively donating a portion of their monthly credit card transaction fees to a special charity or charities of their choice.
Lili Engelhardt Fine Art Portraiture is not only capturing cherished memories for clients, but she also is helping make dreams come true for local charities in the Triangle.
“I’ve been in photography since 2000, and one of the things that is really important to me is giving back to the community,” says Engelhardt. Supporting charities is such a priority to Engelhardt that she not only centered her business on giving back, but she has a yearly goal of donating $250,000 of goods, services and cash to local charities through her “Make the World a Better Place Program.”
In 2015, Englehardt donated more than $145,000 to several local charities including: Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill and Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake County, Chapel Hill Breast Cancer Foundation, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle, Stomp the Monster North Carolina, Caring House, NZMG Foundation, Animal Protection Society of Durham, SPCA of Wake County, Transitions LifeCare and SECU Family House.
“Our goal is to reach $250,000 every year,” says Engelhardt. “Contact us with charities you care about, and we will see if we can support them too.”
“I was so excited when we met Merchant Match Charity because they are another organization that cares as much as we do about giving back,” says Engelhardt. “The fact that they will give 50 percent of our gross profits to a charity of our choice from our processing fees is amazing – It’s an additional donation!”
Engelhardt is meticulous in everything she does and admits she was a tough client during the sign up process. “The customer service was amazing,” she says. “Every time I had a question they were on the other end of the phone, and if they weren’t, they were calling me back by the time I hung up.”
Since becoming an Impact Partner with Merchant Match Charity, Engelhardt is pleased that she hasn’t had any issues. “The process was smooth and it’s worked great since the beginning,” she comments. “We’re so excited about the future and passionate about creating heirloom artwork — combined with giving back is a great way to build a business.”
